I am the Founder of Charmaine Bryan Image Consulting. I help professionals who want to advance in their career to look the part, act the part and speak the part.

I work with you to elevate your personal and professional image. Through training and one-on-one coaching, we work on enhancing your appearance (via colour analysis, style, wardrobe, shopping, grooming), behaviour (personal presence and power, dining etiquette, social grace, business etiquette) and communication (Interpersonal, behaviour styles, presentation skills, conversation and networking).

What did I do before Image Consulting?

Before starting my business, I worked in Education Administration for 11 years in the UK and in Canada. I started in the National government in Central London working on policy, qualification, curriculum development and implementation. I also designed templates and provided guidance to support local education authorities (school boards) around the country to implement government regulatory changes.

After four years, I went on to work with training organizations, school boards and colleges to manage projects and programmes to implement the work locally that I had been doing at national level. I also designed and delivered training for education practitioners to support them in program implementation.

When I moved to Canada in 2012, I worked for an education non-profit on evaluating national programs in schools across Canada for 3 years.

Why do I want to help you transform your image?

I started image consulting to help others develop the confidence in their personal and professional lives to make that first great impression and put their best foot forward. I have been there - I was not always at a place where I always happy or confident with my image - from how I looked, to how I communicated with others. I learnt to develop the image that I wanted to convey to the world.

When I started my career in government. I was ambitious, keen to learn, develop and get promoted. After 6 months a short term promotion opportunity came up in my department. All the project support staff were encouraged to express an interest. I did but didn’t get the position. I was fine with the outcome as I was still new and was still learning a great deal about the work of the organization. Within the year I took all internal courses available to uplevel my technical skills. I thought I was now ready to be promoted. I went for a few internal jobs and was unsuccessful each time. I couldn’t work out why I wasn’t getting them as my experience and skill set were similar to others at my level.

Shortly after another unsuccessful interview I got two light bulb moments that I was sabotaging myself. The first being when I was in a department meeting one day and looked around everyone at the table. I realised those who had been promoted were wearing business attire and had been everyday. Our dress code at work was business casual and we could wear jeans if we didn’t have meetings with outside stakeholders. Most days I wore jeans to work. In the meeting that day I made the connection of those who were wearing business attire everyday were getting promoted. From that day onwards I decided to do the same.

The second experience came from a manager who told me I should work on my communication and presentation skills. He felt that was hindering me going further in the organization. I enrolled in a public speaking course outside of work. When the next promotion opportunity came up in my department I went for it and this time I was successful. I know it was my decision to wear business attire everyday where I looked like I was already working at the next level and represented the organization appropriately. Shortly after getting the promotion I was asked to present our department’s projects at our division away day. It was a successful presentation. Not only did I get compliments from the manager who had pulled me aside but also from other senior managers in our division.

Since that period in my life, I’ve worked hard to develop a professional image and presence that reflects my true self and always working on personal and professional development. Deciding to work on my visual appearance and communication really helped me to get to the next level in my career I want to help you do the same.
