5 Reasons to attend a clothing swap

(This video is recorded from a YouTube Live session)

Would you like to know how to update your wardrobe without spending any money? Sound too good to be true. It’s not if you are open to attending a clothing swap.

What is a clothing swap?

A clothing swap is where you take clothes you no longer wear (they may be too big or small or no longer like) to an event to swap with others. Swaps can be small that you arrange with friends or you can go to a bigger event. I regularly attend Uber-Swap here in Toronto it’s a seasonal women’s swap that happens 4 times a year. You bring at least 12 items and in return you can fill a bag with items. In  the above video I show off my fabulous goodies I scored at the winter swap.

5 reasons why clothing swaps are a great why to update your wardrobe

De-clutter your wardrobe

Clothing swaps are a good way to de-clutter and refill your wardrobe with clothes you do want. How many items do you have in your wardrobe that you don’t wear, they still have the tags on, you no longer like them and they are not suiting your purpose and lifestyle.

Environmentally friendly

On average, we throw away 30kg of unwanted items, per person each year. This is damaging to the environment and filling up land fill. Instead if we swap them we are saving gently used clothes from the land fill.

Great for your pocket and frugal alternative to shopping

The best thing about clothing swaps apart from the entrance fee (if they charge one) which is small, all the clothing is free!

Great to reinvent your wardrobe

The clothes are free you can be more adventurous and try different styles that you wouldn’t necessary buy in the store. You can take a risk knowing if it doesn’t work you can bring it to another swap.

Knowing your gently used clothes have gone to a good home

Sometimes you don’t want to let go of something, knowing it’s going to someone else who will love it makes it easier to give away.

Have you attended a clothing swap before? If not are you convinced to check one out?
