7 ways to update your wardrobe and look

How often are you updating your wardrobe and look? Both form part of your personal brand and is just as important as improving your technical skills. The slightest update can make a big difference in how you are perceived. Here are 7 ways to update your look.

1. Shop in your wardrobe. Most of us wear 20 percent of our clothes 80 percent of the time. You will be surprised with clothes you have probably forgotten about.

2. Add a few new items each season. While I am not a big fan of keeping up with the latest fashion trends. Simply because what is in fashion may not suit you. You also do not want to be caught wearing something that looks out of date. Some items do suffer wear and tear and will need to be replaced. Add a new jacket or pair of pants that mixes and matches with what you already have.

3. Buy a new item in one of the season’s colours. This is an easy way to make an old outfit look brand new. Only if it is a colour that suits your skin tone and is flattening. If you normally wear a solid-colour shirt with your sports jacket, try a striped one.

4. Add new accessories. A new belt, shoes, jewellery, scarf, watch or bag can make an outfit look completely different.

5. Eyeglass frames. This is a great way to update your look. When you next get your eyes tested get a new style of glasses. Beware of going for the 2 for 1 offer if you have a strong lenses prescription as the lenses are not usually included.

6. Update your makeup. Makeup lines are always bringing in new looks and colours each season. Even if the look may not suit you, get a new lipstick, eyeliner, eye shadow or nail polish in a new colour.

7. Get a new hairstyle, or change the colour of your hair. This can be an instant way to change your look. The right colour or cut can make you look and feel great. If you do not want a new colour long term try a semi-permanent hair colour that will wash out. Remember, though, colouring your hair is a commitment and you have to keep it up.

I have given you 7 ways to update your wardrobe and look. I am not saying you need to add them all at once. Aim for 1 or 2 and add more when you are comfortable with the first two.
